The icon of the Hospitality of Abraham depicts the visit of the Holy Trinity, in the form of three angels, to Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 18:1-15). Abraham and Sarah treat their three visitors with great reverence and prepare a meal for them, as shown in the icon. The angels are the Holy Trinity, the one God in three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: in Scripture, the three angels speak as one and when one of the angels speaks to Abraham he is referred to as "Lord."

The angel on the left represents God the Father, the angel in the middle Christ the Son (note he wears the same color scheme as Jesus Christ usually does in Orthodox icons), and the angel on the right the Holy Spirit. The angels representing Christ and the Holy Spirit incline their heads and gaze towards the angel representing God the Father, signifying that Christ and the Holy Spirit emanate from the Father yet at the same time are one with Him.

The Hospitality of Abraham is typically presented as a wedding gift, wishing the newly married couple to welcome the Holy Trinity into their home the same way as did Abraham and Sarah.
