Cherished Cross

I received my 2 knitted Crosses today. One for my sister-in law and one for me. The size of this little knitted cross is small,lightweight on a comfortable black cord. Although small in size it is to be "cherished" for I understand prayers were being said while crafting the Blessed cross .
I am wearing this item now as I submit this review with great joy and humbled by the

This wooden cross, entirely carved by hand, is the handiwork of the monk Father Galaktion of Saint Dimitrios' Cell* in Kapsala, Mount Athos, Greece.

The cross is made of boxwood, a type of wood with a smooth texture, ideal for carving as it holds crisp and fine details. Boxwood has a yellowish color but acquires an elegant darker patina over time.

Hold the cross in your hand as a praying tool, or wear it as a necklace (a black satin cord is included).

Wood tone and wood grain, carving details and dimensions may vary as this is a handmade product.

*The ascetic Cell of Saint Dimitrios belonged priorly to Father Irodion of Kapsala, the Holy Fool (1904-1990).

A cherished step in my journey

For the last 3 years I have been on a journey, from a lifetime of my Protestant faith, to the Orthodox faith. I have only learned of, and read about, Mt. Athos in the last 2 years. How excited I was to learn of this company and the items that they offer. I purchased the large cross for my icon corner, and was excited when this version as a necklace became available again. I will cherish the work and the blessing of the father who made this. Such a precious part of my faith and worship!

My wife bought this for me on our first anniversary. I have had it for about 8 months. The craftsmanship is beautiful, and there is quite a lot of detail for such a comparatively small surface area. Back in 2020 I watched the 2016 documentary "ATHOS", Never before had I seen, heard of or known anything about The Holy Mountain or the Orthodox Christian faith. In the film as I watched solitary Father Galaktion hand carving wooden Crucifix's at His rustic Hermitage it was like an arrow to my heart..."Oh how I would like to have one of those crosses but, how on Earth would I be able to contact such a person?!" Eighteen months later enter Divine Providence in finding exactly that which I hoped and prayed for, right here in AthoniteUSA! The carving is beautiful and wood grain/tones is lovely (you know each one is going to be unique!).

As for the Company itself: the Customer Service has been phenomenal and regarding the packaging, the blue with gold gilt gift box is absolutely elegant.

Do not hesitate to buy this for yourself or as a gift...it's a little treasure and a big blessing (I wear mine daily).
