At the Last Supper, Jesus Christ transformed the relationship between humanity and God, establishing the Eucharist, Holy Communion, which is the center of our life in the Church. Christ gave His disciples, and gives to us every time we receive, divine life. At the Last Supper, more accurately translated as the Mystical Supper, Christ revealed this to the disciples, saying "Take, eat; this is my Body. Drink of it all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant" (Matthew 26:26-28). The Last Supper is one of the most central biblical events to our life in the Church: we have the opportunity to receive and partake of the resurrected Christ every Divine Liturgy.

In the Holy Icon of the Last Supper Christ is in the center, with the beloved disciple John leaning his head on the Lord. The other disciples discuss among themselves who was to betray Christ, not knowing it was Judas sitting in their midst. On the table are all the elements of the dinner, most notably the bread and wine. Lastly, Judas is depicted holding the silver, the blood price, in a bag - he is dressed in gray, two seats to the viewer's left of Christ, reaching into the table.
